HIV OUTPATIENT PROGRAM (HOP)

A Message from MCLNO's CEO, May 24, 2007

Welcome to the Medical Center of Louisiana at New Orleans.

Just as the city of New Orleans is steeped in history so is our Medical center with roots dating back to March of 1736. Although our buildings and name, the first being L'Hospital des Pauvres de la Charite' (Hospital for the Poor), has changed over the years our mission has remained steadfast; "To provide quality service to meet the healthcare needs of all people..."

MCLNO is blessed to have over a thousand loyal and dedicated employees, many of whom, including myself, were born at MCLNO’s historic Charity Hospital. New Orleans is our home and we treat our patients as we would our family. We strive for, and honor excellence in our work. As a center of education we pride ourselves in training highly skilled and experienced physicians, nurses and ancillary medical professionals, many of whom remain to live and work in a city and in a hospital they’ve grown to love.

We hope you visit us, as a student seeking higher education, as a healthcare professional seeking a hospital to call home or as a patient when you are in need of care. When you are ready for us, we will be here for you just as this institution has been here for others for over 270 years.

A Message from LSUHCSD's CEO, June 12, 2007

Dear Citizens of Louisiana,

... The health care that our dedicated staff of professionals provides is available to everyone, and it is equal to, if not better than, the health care provided anywhere in Louisiana.

But perhaps the best care is preventive care.  To that end, our Health Care Effectiveness Program, since its creation in 1997, has made significant, measurable strides in the prevention and management of disease.  The HCE program encompasses all (eight) HCSD hospitals and (nearly 300) clinics and has an integrated systemwide management team, which continually monitors and quantifies the health-care outcomes of our patients.  The program has received national recognition, and it is instrumental in the improvement of the health of Louisiana citizens.

The LSU Health Care Services Division is the fifth largest public hospital system in the country and is the medical provider for almost 20 percent of Louisiana’s population.  It annually has over 60,000 admissions, 350,000 patient days, one million outpatient visits, and 350,000 emergency department visits.  We are honored to provide the highest quality health care to not only the indigent and uninsured, but to all the citizens of Louisiana.

Sincerely,

Michael K. Butler, MD, MHA, CPE
